Introducing the Members of the Japan XO Trombone Quartet to XO Brass' Artist Roster

Taipei, Taiwan, September 5th, 2025... XO Brass is thrilled to welcome the Japan XO Trombone Quartet — four of Japan’s finest trombonists — to our XO Artist roster. This exceptional ensemble represents the pinnacle of artistry, experience, and musical excellence.

Meet the members:

  • Kotaro Nakano – Associate Principal Trombone, Sapporo Symphony Orchestra. Known for his bright, vibrant sound, Nakano is a prize-winning graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts.

  • Kazuyoshi Wakasa – Professor, Elisabeth University of Music / Former Principal Trombone, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. With international training in Paris and extensive orchestral and teaching experience, Wakasa is a leading figure in Japan’s trombone community.

  • Kazuhiko Tanada – Principal Trombone, Gunma Symphony Orchestra. Tanada has built a versatile career as a performer and educator since joining the orchestra in 1991, with additional study in Germany enhancing his artistry.

  • Hiroyuki Kurogane – Bass Trombone, NHK Symphony Orchestra. A top graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts and winner of the Jeju International Brass Competition, Kurogane is renowned for his powerful tone and expressive versatility.
