Tim Coffman is one of the most active trombonists and teachers in the Chicago area. Tim is in demand for studio and show work and has performed with Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Barry Manilow, Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, and many others. Tim has also performed with the WDR Big Band in Cologne, Germany. Tim was a regular member of the Rob Parton Big Band and the Chicago Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Jon Faddis and Dana Hall. Tim is now a regular member of the New Standard Jazz Orchestra.
Tim has been a member of the Jazz Studies faculty at DePaul University since 1997. Before teaching at DePaul he taught at New Trier High School as the trombone instructor and also taught jazz improvisation classes. Tim started teaching at North Central College in 2015 and is on the Jazz Studies faculty there as well. Tim has been on the faculty for the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops since 1992.
Tim is an artist for Denis Wick mouthpieces and plays those exclusively. Tim has performed/adjudicated at various high schools, jazz festivals and universities. In January of 2017, Tim was the Artist in Residence for the Purdue University Jazz Festival.
